BYD ATTO 3 EVO in Hungary: 800 V, 220 kW and two types of drive
The name of the BYD ATTO 3 EVO suggests continuity, but the technical content is fundamentally different from the previous ATTO 3 in several respects. According to the Hungarian manufacturer's data sheet, it has a larger battery, 800 V architecture, rear or all-wheel drive and a peak DC charging power of 220 kW. We will show you what these data mean and why you should compare the Design and Excellence versions before buying.
BYD presented the European version of the ATTO 3 EVO in February 2026, and the model appeared on the Hungarian brand website and in the domestic price and equipment list dated May 18, 2026. The manufacturers of the technical numbers in the article and WLTP data; the actual range and charging speed are affected by temperature, battery charge and charging station load, among others.
What is a certain fact, what is a manufacturer's claim, and what is the conclusion?
- Confirmed fact: the Hungarian BYD data sheet lists two ATTO 3 EVO versions, called Design and Excellence; both use a 74.8kWh LFP Blade battery and 800V architecture.
- Manufacturer data: the combined range of Design WLTP is 510 km, the value of Excellence is 470 km; the maximum DC charging power for both is 220 kW.
- Manufacturer's test result: DC charging from 10 to 80 percent can take 25 minutes under ideal conditions of about 25 °C. This warranty does not apply to all charges.
- Editor's note: the EVO's technical changes are large enough that the new model cannot be automatically deduced from the previous ATTO 3 tests and user experience.
It's not a simple crease: the fold has moved from front to back
According to the January 2026 Hungarian data sheet, the previous ATTO 3 was a front-wheel drive, 150 kW and 310 Nm model, with a 60.4 kWh battery. The ATTO 3 EVO Design, on the other hand, has rear-wheel drive, 230 kW and 380 Nm. The Excellence gets an additional front electric motor, so with all-wheel drive, the system power and torque specified by the manufacturer is 330 kW and 560 Nm.
The length of 4,455 millimeters, the width of 1,875 millimeters, the height of 1,615 millimeters and the wheelbase of 2,720 millimeters remained the same. The dimensional data of the previous model can therefore provide a reference for the design of the garage or parking space. In order to compare the driving characteristics, consumption and space, however, an EVO-specific test is required, because the drive, weight and the design of the luggage compartment have also changed.
74.8 kWh and 800 V: new battery, different electrical environment
The EVO's 74.8 kWh LFP Blade battery is larger than the 60.4 kWh unit listed on the previous ATTO 3's Hungarian data sheet. The manufacturer specifies a Cell-to-Body design, i.e. structurally integrated into the body, and a nominal battery voltage of 499.2 volts. The Hungarian model page presents this as part of the latest 800 V e-Platform 3.0.
A nominal battery voltage of 499.2 volts and an "800 V platform" are not the same metric. The manufacturer describes the electrical architecture as 800 V, while the data sheet states the nominal voltage of the battery pack separately. As a buyer, you should pay attention to the practical results: the charging curve, the performance available in the cold and how long it takes to charge the car on a real route.
What does 220 kW charging mean in practice?
The datasheet for the previous ATTO 3 listed 110 kW DC peak and 35 minutes of 10-80 percent charging. The manufacturer's specification for the EVO is 220 kW and 25 minutes, while the three-phase AC on-board charger is still 11 kW. Twice the peak power does not mean that 220 kW is visible on every charger: the entire charging curve, the preconditioning of the battery and the capacity of the charger count together.
BYD's Hungarian data sheet relates the 25-minute result to an ambient temperature of approximately 25 °C and recommends a 350 kW or higher charger to achieve the maximum value on the vehicle side. In cold conditions, at a high starting charge or at a loaded station, lower performance may be normal; therefore, it is not worth inferring a faulty battery from a single charging session.
What does the 8 in 1 drive system mean?
According to BYD's Hungarian model page, the drive system integrates eight functional units: drive motor, transmission, on-board charger, DC-DC controller, vehicle controller, battery management system, engine controller and power distribution unit. The manufacturer presents this as a space and energy efficiency advantage.
Due to the high level of integration, it is not worth guessing a possible error signal back to a single unit. Since the ATTO 3 EVO is a new model, typically under warranty, in the event of a warning, document the displayed message and the circumstances, then contact an official authorised service centre. Do not disassemble the high-voltage system and do not buy parts for it without a diagnosis.
Design or Excellence: which drive is right for you?
The Design is rear-wheel drive with a single permanent magnet synchronous motor; the Excellence also uses an asynchronous motor in the front. According to the manufacturer data sheet, the curb weight is 1,880 and 1,990 kilograms respectively, and the top speed is 180 and 200 km/h, respectively. The Excellence also includes a head-up display, heated rear seats and a panoramic roof.
The Design offers lower weight, greater official rated range and rear-wheel drive. The Excellence is more powerful, has all-wheel drive, and adds extras like a head-up display, heated rear seats, and a panoramic sunroof. Therefore, the daily route, winter traction, desired performance and equipment may be more important than the acceleration data alone when making a decision.
What do you check before buying?
- Compare the range, performance, weight and equipment of Design and Excellence with your own usage habits.
- Check whether three-phase 11 kW AC charging is possible at home and what DC chargers are available on your frequent routes.
- Ask for a current, written dealer offer, as prices, discounts and financing campaigns may change.
- Clarify the terms of the warranty, the maintenance periods, the location of the nearest official service center and the assistance service.
- Ask for a real delivery date and check exactly which drivetrain, equipment and color are included in the offer.
- Ask for a preliminary mandatory and casco offer; the insurance cost of the 330 kW all-wheel drive may vary.
- On a test drive, check the seating position, the luggage compartment, the front storage compartment, the infotainment and the driving support systems.
In short: the name is familiar, the technical package is new
The BYD ATTO 3 EVO offers a significantly larger battery, a new drive layout, faster DC charging and a new electrical architecture under a well-known model name. Design focuses on range and lower weight, Excellence on performance, all-wheel drive and richer equipment. Before buying, in addition to the manufacturer peak figures, it is also worth comparing the real charging options, the warranty, the service background and the total maintenance costs.

Frequently asked questions
Is the ATTO 3 EVO just a rework of the previous ATTO 3?
Not just a formal update. The EVO has a different drive layout, a larger battery, 800V architecture and higher DC charging performance. The main external dimensions are the same, but the technical package has changed significantly.
What is the difference between ATTO 3 EVO Design and Excellence?
Design has rear-wheel drive, 230 kW and 380 Nm. Excellence adds an asynchronous motor on the front axle, giving all-wheel drive, 330 kW and 560 Nm. Equipment and kerb weight also differ.
Does the ATTO 3 EVO always charge from 10 to 80 percent in 25 minutes?
No. 25 minutes is the manufacturer's test result, with an ambient temperature of about 25 °C and a DC charger of adequate power. Actual time is also affected by battery temperature, initial charge, preconditioning and charger load.
What to do if a new ATTO 3 EVO shows an error?
Write down or take a photo of the exact warning and the circumstances under which it appeared. Do not erase the error randomly or open the high voltage system; report the problem to the seller or an authorized BYD authorised service centre center and request a warranty investigation.
Can the ATTO 3 EVO high-voltage system be repaired at home?
It's not a layman's task. The high-voltage battery, drive electronics and wiring may contain life-threatening voltage. For a new car under warranty, contact an official dealer first; diagnostics, de-energization and repair should only be carried out by properly trained and equipped specialists.
