Opel Astra Electric 2026: what can the 58 kWh battery, V2L and the update do?
The 2026 Opel Astra Electric is not a new generation, but a substantive model update. The drive is still 115 kW, but the battery has increased to 58 kWh, V2L, battery preconditioning before charging and three-stage adjustable recuperation have appeared. However, in addition to the factory WLTP range of up to 454 kilometers, the DC peak power of 100 kW and real-world use are also worth considering.
The 2026 Opel Astra Electric is not a new generation but a substantial model update. Output remains 115 kW, while the battery grows to 58 kWh and the car gains V2L, battery preconditioning before fast charging and three selectable levels of regenerative braking. Alongside the manufacturer-stated WLTP range of up to 454 kilometres, however, buyers should also consider the 100 kW DC peak and real-world use.
What has changed on the 2026 Astra Electric model?
Confirmed fact: the model-updated Astra Electric uses front-wheel drive with a power of 115 kW, i.e. 156 hp and a torque of 270 Nm. The battery has a gross capacity of 58 kWh, of which Opel provides a usable capacity of 55 kWh. The manufacturer data of the previous Astra Electric was 54 kWh and a maximum WLTP range of 418 kilometers, so the update brought a four kilowatt-hour larger nominal battery and an increase in official rated range of up to approximately 35 kilometers.
- Five-door Astra Electric: up to 454 kilometers WLTP range and 15.3 kWh/100 km official combined consumption for the most efficient configuration.

The manufacturer's measurement of 454 kilometers is an unusual promise
WLTP values of 454 and 445 kilometers: version-dependent manufacturer data from standardized laboratory measurements. Opel's Hungarian brochure also specifically indicates that the route, the outside temperature, the use of heating, cooling and preconditioning strongly influence the actual range. This should not be interpreted to mean that 454 kilometers can be covered in any weather and on the highway.
Independent reference: ADAC saw consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km in its April 2026 road test, but did not provide a full standard Ecotest range measurement for the updated car. Based on the 350 kilometer result of the previous 54 kWh model's own test, the organization considers a practical value of around 350 kilometers to be realistic for the updated version as well. This is an editorial estimate and a comparison based on previous measurements, not a certified range test of the new model.
100 kW DC charging: decent, but not class leading
According to Opel's manufacturer data, the Astra Electric accepts up to 100 kW of DC charging and can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in about 32 minutes under the right conditions. ADAC measured a short peak of 107 kW and a charge time of 31 minutes on the previous model, but did not provide a new full charge curve for the 2026 battery. Therefore, the only safe conclusion is that the nominal DC power given by the manufacturer did not increase spectacularly with the model update.
- The inscription 150, 300 or 400 kW on the charging station does not mean that the Astra accelerates above 100 kW.
- The manufacturer's figure of 32 minutes is valid for 20-80 percent, at the right battery temperature and with a sufficiently powerful charger.
- For home and public AC charging, the car gets a three-phase on-board charger of up to 11 kW as standard equipment.
- For a longer trip, the charging curve and the true performance of the charger may be more important than the peak value that can be reached for a short time.
What does V2L mean and what does it not mean?
Manufacturer's claim: the 2026 Astra Electric and Sports Tourer Electric can also supply external electrical devices from its battery with the V2L, or Vehicle-to-Load, function. This can be useful, for example, for operating an electric bicycle or a small consumer. However, V2L is not the same as V2H, which feeds the home network, and it does not automatically mean that the car can feed back into the electricity network.
Before buying, ask the Hungarian dealer for a written answer on what manufacturer-approved adapter is required for the selected equipment, whether it is an accessory or standard equipment, how much load the system allows, and what country or software restrictions apply. The current official sources confirm the existence of the function, but on the Hungarian side they do not provide a complete list of accessories and performance for all versions.
Battery preconditioning: useful, but works well with routing
According to Opel's May 2026 technical announcement, the high-voltage battery can be preconditioned for the planned fast charging. In cold or hot weather, this can help ensure that the battery temperature is more favorable at the start of charging. The function does not override the charger limit, current charge, battery protection or charging curve.
On a test drive, check how preconditioning can be started: automatically by going to the charger selected in the built-in navigation, manually, or both ways. The Hungarian dealer configuration and the car's software version may differ from the foreign test car, so check the actual available function in the display car's menu.
Five-door or Sports Tourer Electric?
The five-door offers a slightly better official rated range, the Sports Tourer's advantage is a more usable luggage space. ADAC's table, compiled from manufacturer data, states a basic luggage space of 352 liters for the five-door and 516 liters for the station wagon; with the rear seats folded down, the given value is 1268 and 1553 liters, respectively. The Hungarian Opel site gives the range of the body variants separately, so don't automatically write the five-door maximum of 454 kilometers next to the station wagon.
- Five-door: more practical if the smaller body and the best official rated range are more important than the luggage space.
- Sports Tourer: provides more cargo space for family or company use, but the manufacturer-stated maximum range is 445 kilometers.
- Both versions are front-wheel drive, with the same nominal engine and battery data.
- Actual consumption may be modified by wheel size, equipment, load and route; always ask for the data sheet of the specific configuration.
When updating a model, the part name alone is not enough
Editor's note: since the 2026 Astra has a revised front end, new lighting, modified interior components and a different battery variant, a part from a previous Astra L Electric is not automatically considered eligible for replacement. The matching of the bumper, headlight, emblem, controller, battery or charging electronic unit must only be established on the basis of the full VIN, production date, equipment, part number and up-to-date current OEM parts catalogue.
The model is new in 2026 and typically has a manufacturer's warranty, so in the event of a fault, charging abnormality or warning message, the first viable route is the official Opel authorised service centre and warranty investigation. Looking for disassembled high-voltage parts at this age is not justified, and home disassembly is dangerous.

- Ask for the complete technical data sheet of the specific five-door or Sports Tourer configuration and the Hungarian warranty conditions.
- Check that the offer is really for the 2026 58 kWh model upgrade, not an earlier stock 54 kWh car.
- Take a test drive to see the three-stage recharging, the battery preconditioning menu and the charging design of the built-in navigation.
- Clarify in writing the price, availability, permitted performance and warranty conditions of the V2L adapter.
- For your daily route, instead of 454 kilometers, count on a weather and highway reserve, and then check the necessary charging stops.
- Compare the two bodies with the same equipment, wheel size, financing and warranty.
In short: it became more efficient, but the charging speed remained the main compromise
Key changes to the 2026 Astra Electric include the larger battery, V2L, preconditioning before fast charging and refined energy recovery. Availability in Hungary and the choice between five-door and estate make it a genuine option, although a 100 kW DC rating is modest beside today’s fastest-charging models. A sound choice should combine official WLTP data, independent consumption tests, the buyer’s own routes and the exact specification.
