Renault Scenic E-Tech 2026: 67 kWh LFP or 89 kWh NMC?
The Scenic E-Tech update announced in September 2026 introduces two new batteries and substantially shorter manufacturer DC charging times. The 67 kWh LFP and 89 kWh NMC versions must not be confused with the 60 and 87 kWh specifications still shown on Renault Hungary's current pages. This guide separates the announced changes, what can actually be verified for Hungary and the details to confirm before ordering.
Confirmed fact: on 1 September 2026 Renault announced new 67 kWh LFP and 89 kWh NMC batteries for the 220 hp Scenic E-Tech electric. Manufacturer claim: they provide up to 467 and 642 km WLTP and 15–80% DC charging in 24 and 28 minutes respectively. Hungarian market fact: Renault Hungary's charging and range pages available on 8 September 2026 still showed the earlier 60/87 kWh versions. Editorial conclusion: Hungarian buyers should use the specific written quotation to establish which model year and battery can actually be ordered.
What changed in the 2026 Scenic E-Tech range?
Renault says the 220 hp, 160 kW drivetrain can now be paired with two new batteries. Long Range moves from 87 to 89 kWh NMC, while the later Comfort Range receives a 67 kWh LFP pack. The update is more than two larger numbers: manufacturer 15–80% DC times fall for both versions, accompanied by new digital, comfort and driver-assistance features.
The announcement gives French order timing and euro prices. Those are not Hungarian prices and do not establish a Hungarian launch date. The Hungarian e-cars.hu report on the update likewise stated that Renault had not yet published Hungarian availability or pricing details.
67 kWh LFP: smaller pack, higher DC peak
The 67 kWh Comfort Range uses lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, chemistry and a cell-to-pack design. Renault quotes up to 467 km WLTP, a 165 kW DC peak and 24 minutes from 15 to 80%. These are manufacturer figures measured under standardised or defined conditions, not promises for every temperature and charger.
Renault positions the pack as a more affordable, versatile alternative to NMC. The smaller battery may be rational when daily journeys are short, home or workplace charging is regular and you apply a realistic winter and motorway margin instead of treating 467 km WLTP as a route guarantee. Do not infer a Hungarian price from the French starting figure.
89 kWh NMC: charging time is the bigger gain
The new Long Range battery is an 89 kWh NMC pack. Manufacturer figures are 642 km WLTP, a 150 kW DC peak and 28 minutes from 15 to 80%. Renault Hungary's previous technical page lists 625 km and 37 minutes in the same window for the 87 kWh version. The nine-minute reduction is therefore more significant than the nominal 2 kWh capacity increase.
Electrive's technical interpretation is that the 150 kW peak is unchanged, so the improvement mainly comes from a better charging curve: the car can sustain stronger power for more of the session. This is an inference from the published peak and time figures; an independent 2026 test under matching conditions is still needed to establish the real-world difference.
24 or 28 minutes: why 165 kW does not automatically win
Peak power is only a momentary maximum. Total charging time depends on battery size, starting state of charge, temperature, preconditioning, the charger's actual output and the full charging curve. The 67 kWh pack's 165 kW peak therefore does not mean it is always faster or better than the 89 kWh version rated at 150 kW.
Both 24 and 28 minutes are manufacturer claims for 15 to 80%. A different starting level, a cold battery or a power-sharing charger will take longer. On a road trip, range recovered in kilometres, the charging curve and the next driving leg matter more than one peak-kW figure.
What can currently be ordered in Hungary?
When checked on 8 September 2026, Renault Hungary's range page still showed up to 625 km, while its charging page listed 60 and 87 kWh batteries, 130/150 kW DC peaks and 32/37-minute 15–80% times. The directly accessible Hungarian price list, dated 8 October 2025, also listed EV60 and EV87. These confirm the older specification, not Hungarian order availability for the new 67/89 kWh versions.
Request a dated, itemised quotation stating model year, battery capacity and chemistry, 160 kW motor, DC charging figure, onboard AC charger, trim, warranty and expected delivery. If it says only Scenic E-Tech Long Range, ask for clarification: the name alone does not distinguish the 87 and 89 kWh packs.
11 or 22 kW AC, V2L and V2G are three separate questions
Renault's 2025 factory release said Scenic gained an 11 kW bidirectional AC charger as standard and a 22 kW version as an option. With the V2L adapter it can supply an external device at up to 3.7 kW. The 22 kW onboard charger adds speed only on a suitable three-phase AC point; it brings no advantage on an 11 kW wallbox.
Bidirectional hardware does not automatically make grid-exporting V2G service usable in Hungary. Renault's own 2025 description tied the complete Mobilize V2G service to France, with a specific charger, energy tariff and app. In a Hungarian quotation, check AC power, the V2L adapter and which bidirectional functions are actually supported locally as separate items.
Vehicle data, not the model name, identifies the battery
The 60, 67, 87 and 89 kWh Scenic versions are not one interchangeable technical specification. At purchase and during later service, full VIN, build date, motor output, factory battery marking, onboard charger and software version together identify the car. Stock or previously ordered vehicles are especially likely to differ from the latest web advertisement by model year.
The updated Scenic is new and normally covered by manufacturer warranty. For a charging fault, warning or unusual range, the first step is VIN-based warranty and software assessment by an authorised Renault workshop. Searching for a used battery, charger or drive unit is not a realistic first route and creates compatibility risk without a diagnosis.
Have these eight points written into the quotation
- the exact model year and expected production month;
- the 60, 67, 87 or 89 kWh battery and its chemistry;
- the motor's 125 or 160 kW output;
- the 15–80% DC time and corresponding peak power;
- the 11 or 22 kW onboard AC charger;
- the V2L adapter and bidirectional functions available in Hungary;
- the full Hungarian vehicle and battery warranty terms;
- the final gross price, finance terms and delivery date.
The most important change in the 2026 Scenic is not the 642 km headline but the choice of two different batteries and the shorter charging time. For a Hungarian buyer, however, the first decision point is whether the dealer is quoting the older 60/87 or the new 67/89 kWh car. Only then can range, charging and price be compared properly.
