Kia EV2 in Hungary: 42.2 or 61 kWh, real range and charging

The Kia EV2 is a 4.06-metre electric small SUV built in Slovakia, offered with two different batteries and a choice of four- or five-seat cabins. The smaller pack brings the more powerful motor, the larger pack more manufacturer-rated range, while the optional 22 kW onboard charger can matter at Hungarian AC posts. The starting price shown on Kia Hungary's model page differs from the linked price list, so a decision should be based only on a fresh written quotation.

Confirmed fact: Kia Hungary's model page and price list show that the EV2 can be ordered with a 42.2 or 61.0 kWh battery. Manufacturer claim: WLTP range reaches up to 317 or 453 km, while 10–80% DC charging takes about 30 minutes. Independent measurement: ADAC recorded 245 km of mixed range and 18.8 kWh/100 km including charging losses in the 42.2 kWh version. Editorial conclusion: buy the configuration that matches your routes, seating needs and charging access, not simply the largest headline figure.

It is on sale in Hungary, but which starting price is current?

When checked on 1 September 2026, Kia Hungary's model page displayed a starting price of HUF 9,999,000. The MY27 price list linked from that page, valid from 15 April 2026, instead lists HUF 10,999,000 for the limited-stock 42.2 kWh Light; Vezess reported the same figure in its 5 August 2026 test. These sources conflict, so neither number should be treated as an unconditional final purchase price.

Request a dated, itemised quotation covering battery, trim, seating layout, heat pump, 22 kW charger, paint, finance conditions and expected delivery. The attractive entry price can only be compared fairly with other cars when the equipment required for the same use is included.

42.2 or 61 kWh: range is not the only difference

Standard Range combines a 42.2 kWh battery with a 108 kW, 250 Nm front motor and up to 317 km WLTP. Long Range uses a 61.0 kWh pack, a 99 kW, 250 Nm motor and up to 453 km WLTP. The larger-battery version therefore travels farther on paper but is not more powerful: the manufacturer 0–100 km/h times are 8.7 and 9.5 seconds respectively.

Vezess identifies the smaller battery as LFP and the larger one as NMC. These are different technical variants, so a later parts or battery enquiry cannot be resolved from “Kia EV2” alone. Full VIN, production month, capacity, trim and factory part number are needed together; on a new car under warranty, every fault should first be assessed by an authorised Kia workshop.

317 km WLTP and 245 km in ADAC testing: why both can be true

The 317 km figure is a standardised WLTP rating, not a route guarantee. In its test published on 31 August 2026, ADAC measured 18.8 kWh/100 km including charging losses and 245 km of mixed range in the 42.2 kWh Earth. The club says around 300 km may be possible in favourable conditions, while motorway and winter use will reduce range.

That result describes one specification and one test method, not every driver's journey. Consider daily commuting, the most common longer trip, winter parking, wheel size and home charging together. If you regularly need 200–250 motorway kilometres without charging, choose the smaller pack only after a representative drive and a realistic winter margin.

Optional 22 kW AC charging may matter more than a large DC peak

Kia quotes roughly 30 minutes from 10 to 80% on DC for both batteries at a suitable high-power station. This is a manufacturer time under conditions shaped by battery temperature, starting charge, charger and the charging curve. A 150 kW label on the post does not mean the car accepts 150 kW throughout the session.

A distinctive EV2 option is the three-phase 22 kW onboard AC charger; standard is 11 kW. Vezess listed the option at HUF 400,000 at the time of its test, so confirm it in the current Hungarian quotation. It can be valuable when you regularly use 22 kW AC posts and have short parking windows; it brings no speed benefit at an 11 kW home wallbox.

Four or five seats change both the rear cabin and luggage space

The five-seat EV2 has a fixed rear bench and a manufacturer-rated 362-litre boot. The four-seat package provides two individually sliding rear seats and 321–403 litres depending on their position. The April Hungarian price list shows a HUF 250,000 supplement for this package on Air trim. ADAC measured a lower 315 litres in its own five-seat test, so physically try a pushchair or large luggage before ordering.

The four-seat version is not simply a better rear bench: it removes the centre seating position. For family use, decide first whether five belted places are regularly needed, then weigh sliding flexibility, legroom and maximum luggage space.

Heat pump, navigation and V2L: buy equipment, not a badge

Heat pump, 22 kW AC charging, V2L and charger-aware route planning are not identical across every version. Kia Hungary lists a heat pump for GT-Line, while the price list shows separate heat-pump and winter packages for Air; Vezess notes that without factory navigation, estimated arrival charge may also be unavailable.

  • Ask for the exact equipment code of the car, not only the Air, Earth or GT-Line name.
  • During the test drive, check battery preconditioning and charger-aware route planning.
  • Have the quotation state whether the onboard AC charger is 11 or 22 kW.
  • Confirm whether the V2L adapter, Type 2 cable and heat pump are included.
  • Request the full Hungarian vehicle and high-voltage battery warranty terms.

A new car under warranty: the authorised workshop comes first

The EV2 is a 2026 model, so almost all Hungarian examples are new and covered by manufacturer warranty. Kia Hungary's information states eight years or 160,000 km of high-voltage battery capacity coverage down to at least 70%; the Hungarian documents supplied at handover determine the exact applicability. For abnormal charging, a warning or a range complaint, request fault-code diagnosis and warranty assessment first.

Searching for a used battery, onboard charger or drive unit is not a realistic first step for such a young model and can create compatibility risk. Today's buyer should focus on authorised service coverage, software support, warranty, insurance and equipment confirmed in writing.

Check these eight points before ordering

  • the final gross price and every promotion condition;
  • the 42.2 or 61 kWh battery and its corresponding motor;
  • the four- or five-seat layout and usable luggage space;
  • 11 or 22 kW AC charging, the DC time claim and supplied cables;
  • heat pump, preconditioning, navigation and V2L equipment;
  • the WLTP figure for the exact wheel size;
  • the complete Hungarian vehicle and battery warranty terms;
  • the nearest authorised workshop, assistance cover and expected delivery.

In brief: your use decides which EV2 is better

The Kia EV2's strengths are compact dimensions, two distinct batteries, a flexible cabin and the rare 22 kW AC option. The 42.2 kWh version can be rational for urban and suburban use, while the 61 kWh pack adds reserve for longer journeys. Because current price sources differ, do not rely on the website headline: exact car, equipment, charging and warranty should appear in one written quotation.

Should I search for used parts for a new Kia EV2?
